Utah has official early childhood standards. They've had some type of standards for a while, but now there is a clear continuum from 3 years-old through kindergarten.
You can find them here.
If you are concerned about making sure your child is ready for kindergarten, this is a great place to look. If you have any questions about what any of it means, you can ask me. Since preschool doesn't take up a lot of time, what happens at home is more important than what happens at school. Preschool is a fun introduction to concepts, and reviewing and working on what is being talked about in preschool is a great way to make sure it "sticks" with your child. When you visit the SEEL site, you will find ways to practice and extend the currently discussed literacy concept. By the time a child enters kindergarten they need not be reading, but they should know most of the letters.
When you're planning your preschool lessons, if you have questions about what may be lacking in the children's learning experience, in all curriculum areas, try looking at the standards.
