Daily Schedule – Preschool 2011-2012 Pirates, Q and Patterns
9:30 Gathering – Counting Blocks, making patterns, make pirate hats
9:40 Welcome Time

-Read Aloud – The Gingerbread Pirates
9:50 Literacy Activity – Quicksand- Board the pirate ship. Land at an island and walk over quicksand by stepping on papers that have “qu” words on them (queen, quilt, quarter, quail, question, quack). Say the words as we hop across the quicksand to safety. Do this “quietly.”
10:05 Math – Patterning with M&Ms
Decorate Gingerbread Pirates
10:20 Break/Snack – Gingerbread Pirates and “quick”sand cups
10:40 Science/Social Studies – Sink or Float
Pirate ships float on the water. Fill up a bathtub with water. Have kids take turns selecting items from a bin and guessing whether the item will sink or float. Then have them test their guess. Talk about what kind of things sink and what floats.
11:05 Choosing Time
1.Dig for buried treasure. Fill a bin with sand and hide shells and
pennies inside.
2. Dramatic play- be a princess who gets attacked by pirates
3. Look at books about pirates
4. Build your own pirate ship using geomags
