Daily Schedule – Preschool 2012-2013- “it” measurement, Construction

 

9:30  Gathering – bathroom scale, ruler, yard stick, measuring tape, etc.

 

9:40  Welcome Time

9:50  Literacy Activity – SEEL:  Sit on It (adapted)

Tape /it/ to a chair.  When the music stops the child with the /it/ tapes it on the wall.  Place a letter that will make a word with /it/ on another chair.  Do not eliminate chairs.  Play the music again. Have the child who sits on the chair with the letter bring the letter to the wall and say the word it makes.  Letter suggestions are /h/, /k/, /m/, /s/, /f/, /b/, /l/, and /p/.

 

10:05  Math – Measurement- Put out different boxes.  Sort them according to measuring words: shortest/tallest, fattest/skinniest, deepest/shallowest.  What other ways can they be sorted? Measure the boxes with a tape measure.  Let each child have a turn.

 

10:20  Break/Snack – Graham crackers and frosting to make houses.

 

10:40  Science/Social Studies – Building with boxes.  What can you make from your box?

 

11:05  Choosing Time

1.      Play dress-up and use boxes for castle

2.       Box targets for bow and arrow

 

11:25  Clean up, Gather to sing and read until picked up
