-song – I’m a Little Jack O’Lantern (tune I’m a Little Teapot)

-what day is today on calendar

-Read Aloud – Trick or Treat by Bill Martin, Jr., have cardboard “building” to show which floor they’re on (up/down 1 to 10) (Future idea - have a kid the children can actually physically move, instead of me pointing. They liked it, but they could learn more.)

The Kid With the Squid

10:05 Math –
- Read “Trick or Treat Countdown”
- Have kids do pages 1-5 of counting book (stickers, drawing, dictating)

10:20 Break/Snack – outside, dance inside in case of rain, for snack, “Do you want to see what I hid under the lid?”

10:40 Science/Social Studies –
- Practice Finger play
- make shadow puppets

11:05 Choosing Time
1. Make counting book bigger (math/literacy)
2. glurch/oobleck (liquid starch, glue) (tactile, exploration)
3. shadow exploration (small objects, flashlights, paper, crayons)

Party:
(Get in circle)

Song: I’m a Little Jack O’ Lantern

Book/Literacy: There Was An Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything (stand up, do actions) (They loved it, but make sure they are standing on a specific spot or against the wall in future.)

Shadow Plays, promise to let them free-play later

Take a Break, Make Snack (includes bobbing for apples, popcorn hand, and banana ghosts)

Math: Read Monster Musical Chairs, play musical chairs (note for future - loved book, loved magnets that went with it, but musical chairs is a hard game for kids, in the future make a second circle for those who get out of the first one to continue playing, and not get out.)

Choose: Shadow play, more musical chairs, Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Jack-O-Lantern (Duck, Duck, Goose, this was a hit.)
Clean up and read stories

For future: bring balls, etc., so the kids can run and free play in gym. Maybe also eat snack in gym . . . these are some excited kides!
