Turkeys, T, and 6

This is Michelle's lesson plan - wish I could take credit, the kids had tons of fun!

Daily Schedule – Nov. 1, 2012
Turkeys, “T” and #6

9:30  Gathering –  Build with legos or look at books

9:40  Welcome Time
            -fingerplay –“Five Little Turkeys”

Five little turkeys standing at the door,
One waddled off, and then there were four.

Four little turkeys sitting near a tree,
One waddled off, and then there were three.

Three little turkeys with nothing to do,
One waddled off, and then there were two.

Two little turkeys in the morning sun,
One waddled off, and then there was one.

One little turkey better run away,
For soon it will be Thanksgiving Day.
-Who is here today – sing days of the week with rhythm sticks
            -calendar
-Read Aloud –   Thomas the Tank Engine Book- Look for all the “ts”

9:50  Literacy Activity Seel – A ride on the “T” train.  Have kids make their own tickets for the train by writing the letter “T” all over the tickets.  Have kids get on the train with their tickets. (use laundry baskets or blankets for the train.)  Ask them to name things they see around the room while on the train that start with the letter T.  Ask them to name animals that start with T and pretend they are that animal: tiger, turtle, toucan, tarantula, turkey.

10:05  Math – Turkey Math. Add feathers in your turkey math book until the turkey has the same number of feathers as the number on the turkey.  Use fingers to show how five and five make ten. Teach the kids the “turkey tens” song.  See who can count by tens.

10:20  Break/Snack – Stick Pretzels (to make your own “T”), crackers and turkey to make mini sandwiches.

10:40  Science/Social Studies – Talk about turkeys.  Note the difference between wild turkeys and domestic turkeys.  Play Turkey Tag: One person is the “Turkey.”  They tag you and then you are a “turkey”too.  Play until everyone has been tagged.

11:05  Choosing Time
1.       Do the turkey finger play with own cutouts
2.       Finger paint and make handprint turkeys

11:25  Clean up.  Gather to sing and read until picked up
