Gathering time: Snow books
Book/song: If it’s snowy and you know it, clap your paws
Literacy time: Pip the paper clip skier. Give each kid a
paper clip skier guy (a clear stone glued to a paper clip) and a sheet of wax
paper with some shaving cream on it. Pull (pre-prepared) wordstrips out of a
bowl and have the kids make Pip the skier do the actions in the shaving cream “snow,”
or draw the picture in their shaving cream: Slip, dip, tip, flip, clip, trip,
zip, ship, lip, anything else I can think of.
Math time: Pattern block magnets. Give each kid a cookie
sheet and a collection of pattern block magnets. Have them imitate me in a
lesson about patterns. If there is time, pull out snowflake patterns (found at http://www.momshavequestionstoo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Snowflake-Pattern-Blocks-Templates.pdf)
and have the kids play with those. If not, just save them for choosing time.
Snack: build a snowman from crackers, cheese, raisins, etc
Science/Social Studies: Weather permitting, go outside for
some hands-on fun! Bring some salt, colored water with droppers or in spray bottles and see what kind of beautiful snow art we can make. Come back inside to warm up.
Choosing time: Pattern blocks magnets, snow playdough (white
dough with sparkles mixed in), snow books by the fireplace with blankets.
