Three little pigs, three little pigs,
Each built a house, each built a house.
The wolf came by, and he huffed and puffed.
The straw and stick houses were not so tough.
Thank goodness, the brick house was strong enough
For the three little pigs!
-Who is here today – sing days of the week with rhythm sticks
-calendar
-Read Aloud – Jack and the beanstalk, Three Little Pigs
9:50 Literacy Activity “K” – Talk about how “k” makes a /k/ sound like in “king”, but it can be a sneaky letter and sometimes be silent like in “knight.” Knights have to be silent when sneaking up on dragons. Draw “k” on whiteboards. Use the rest of the time to practice the play for the Christmas party.
Use play developed by Tuesday group, or develop one now with input from kids. Write responses on paper so everyone can see. A good idea is the inside of your wrapping paper. You can even reuse it for presents later.
Tell the kids they can choose to be either be a princess or a knight.
Ask: What should our title be? (Explain that the title tells what the story is about) Write the title on the paper. Explain that fairy tales all start with the same phrase. Write “Once upon a time” under the title.
Next write, “there were _____ princesses.” Ask how many want to be a princess and have someone write that number in the blank.
Each princess can pick something they want their character to do.
Write, “The first princess liked to…” Ask each girl what they want to act out and write it out in the play.
Write something like, “The princesses lived peacefully in the land until_____” Ask the kids what bad thing could happen that could be solved by the knights.
Write their response on the paper. Continue with ”Luckily _____ brave knights heard of the ________ and came to help the princesses.” Fill in the blanks. Introduce each knight with a characteristic of their choosing, or they could show off a fancy battle move or special power. The knights battled the __________ and saved the princesses. To show their gratitude the princesses _____________(have the girls pick what they will do thank the knights). Explain that fairy tales all end the same way and write: “and they all lived happily ever after. The end”
Practice the skit a few times making changes as needed.
