Daily Schedule – Preschool Sept. 29, 2011 Apples, #4 and “J”

9:30 Gathering – Wooden puzzles

9:40 Welcome Time
-fingerplay - Way up high in the apple tree
Four red apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could,
Down came an apple
Mmmm, it was good! (repeat and count down)

-Who is here today - Talk with kids about who is at school, who is not, and place their names of those present on the chart. Count how many kids here, and write the number. You can do lots of extensions with playing with names if you want.
-calendar
Sing the “Days of the Week” song, to the tune of the Adams Family. Place the magnet on the day of the week it is. You can then point to the current date and move on, place the day’s weather on the current date, count the number of days in the month so far, count the number of days until a special event, talk about what tomorrow and yesterday are, talk about what a week is, etc. Whatever you would like to talk about that fits into your day and the attention span.
-Read Aloud – Apples by Melvin and Gilda Berger

9:50 Literacy Activity – SEEL Activity Jiggle and Jive

10:05 Math – Number 4! Shop at the Store by Molly Dingles
Use four different colored apples. Count them all together. Cut each apple in four slices. Count each slice together. Have the children taste different types of apples such as Macs or Granny Smiths. Make a graph to see which apple was the most well liked. Then make a chart with the words, YELLOW, RED, LIGHT GREEN and DARK GREEN and each student gets to cut out and paste his favorite color apple to the chart.

10:20 Break/Snack – Apples, gummy worms, and play outside

10:40 Science/Social Studies –
Cut the apple width wise. Pour lemon juice on half and apple and do nothing to the other half. Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Discuss what made the caterpillar sick. Talk about healthy foods and unhealthy foods. Observe what happens to the apple. Discuss what happened by asking questions.

11:05 Choosing Time
      1. Make an apple tree: brown construction paper, yellow, green and red paint. Rip the paper to form the trunk and branches. Glue the paper on another piece of paper to form the tree. Use a toilet paper roll to dip in the paint and then press on the paper to make circle apples. From this site: http://www.teachpreschool.org/2010/08/a-is-for-painting-apple-trees-in-preschool/
