Letter F - Firefighters Fight Fires

Draw houses with letter F's in the middle of them on the sidewalk with chalk. Draw flames coming from the houses. Place a character that starts with F in each of the houses. These are the F houses on F street. (You can draw the street, too.)

Some ideas for characters that live on F- street: frog, fish, firefighter Fred, fox, funny face, farm . . . these could possibly work, maybe put eyeballs on them to make them characters: fork, flute, fan, flower, fruit

Show the students the letter Ff, and talk about the sound it makes. Tell them we are going to be firefighters, because it starts with F. Dress up a few kids at a time as firefighters. Tell them you found out that F street is on fire, so they need to fight the flames! Give them water bottles, and allow them to fight the flames (spray water) on the houses of the various F characters. Prompt kids to talk about what they are doing as they do it. E.g. "Whose house is on fire? Fish's house is on fire! Fight the flames!" (Ideally the houses would be laminated or be plastic houses, or something else that doesn't wash away with the flames. But we won't get there by tomorrow. :) )

If kids would like to fight more fires, they can write their own F's on the sidewalk, possibly drawing pictures of things that start with F.
