9:30 Gathering – Blocks

9:40 Welcome Time
-song – At the Fire Station - sung to "Down at the Station"

At the fire station early in the morning (during the daytime/late in the evening),
Spots the fire dog is watching, don't you know?
He sees the firefighters [riding in the firetruck].
"Clang! Clang!" sounds the bell. Off they go!

Each time you sing the song, substitute one of the following phrases for the words in the brackets:
....sliding down the fire pole.
....building their muscles.
....putting on equipment.
....eating in the kitchen.
....resting in the bedroom.

9:50 Literacy Activity – “ag” : Rag Tag Game

10:05 Math – 
Practice writing ’s 3
Have them each count out three tooth picks and glue them to paper to make a triangle. A triangle has three sides. Talk about other things that come in three’s, tricycle wheels, triangles, etc…
10:20 Break/Snack – play outside, eat pretzels (three holes) and crackers.
10:40 Science/Social Studies – Fire Safety
           

Sing: Never Play With Matches - sung to "Frere Jacques"
Never, never play with matches.

Repeat, substituting lighters for matches.

Talk with the kids about the importance of not playing with fire, lit candles matches, lighters, etc..
Explain what smoke detectors are, why they are important, and why we need to keep fresh batteries in them.
Explain what to do in the event of a fire. Stop drop and roll if you are on fire. Stay low to the ground and get out fast if they are ever caught in a fire. Feel the door if it is hot/cold. If it is hot, find another way to get out of the fire. Talk to them briefly about having escape plans, not hiding from firemen during a fire, and getting out fast.
Simulate a fire by creating a maze of objects, lay a blanket over the top and have them practice crawling through the maze.

2. fire safety dramatic play – Practice crawling through maze, pretending to stay low to the ground, below the smoke, to escape the fire.
